LWT High Mountain Sled Dog Tours

A tour through Lapland´s high alpine mountains is a must for those who wish to experience the high country above the Arctic Circle.

Our tour area is west-northwest of Kiruna known as the Abisko and the Kebnekaise region. While the air is crystal clear, the vistas are breathtaking. This sled dog tour follows trails through the beautifully eroded mountains, our experinced guides know them well.

Like all of our tours each visitor drives his or her own dog team and caring for their own dogs including their daily feeding.

We overnight in Swedish tour huts along the trails. These vary from quite primitive to more modern, saunas are located in several of these.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival Kiruna airport/railway station, transfer to our home base, welcome dinner, tour orientation wich includes examination of your personal gear to make sure that you are not missing any important items.

Day 2. After a hearty breakfast we load our dogs, sleds and gear onto our dog trucks for the trip to the high mountain area. After our arrival, instruction in the basics of how to drive a dog team, you learn quickly by putting into practice your new knowledge on the first short sled dog trips.

Day 3-5. We offer numerous options for touring the many mountain trails, all are most captivating. The trails lead in all derections with a new experience around each bend, never a dull moment, ranging between 19 - 50kms, the daily trips vary depending upon the weather and the wishes of the group.

Day 6. Your final day here in the high mountains consist of a shorter trip 19 - 35kms, then we load our dogs, sleds and gear onto our dog trucks for the return trip to our home base, after a sauna we enjoy a farwell dinner party.

Day 7. After breakfast, transfer to the Kiruna airport/railway station. Taking with you the memories of this splendid wilderness experience.
