dog sledding school - basics
From August to November you have the opportunity to spend one or two weeks with us at LWT in Kauppinen, taking part in our preparations for the next sled dog season. You learn by working with us with preparation and dog training at our home base and in our camps. You learn harnessing, driving, feeding and other kennel work, fishing is also a part of activities you take part in. We have always a minimum of +150 dogs at our kennel, mainly Alaskan Huskies. We are normally on snow from end of October, before that we train our dogs with ATV´s on forest roads and trails.
dog sledding school - advanced

Around mid November every year, we run a 2 week course for those who really want to step up the knowledge about dog sledding and advanced winter camping.
This course is very demanding, but also very rewarding. After completing this course you will have the knowledge to take care of youself and your dogteam in rough winter condition.
Each participant will get an individual education and have to put it all in practice during the last days of the course ! As the final test you will be on your own with your dogteam (5-8 dogs) taking care of them and yourself for around 32 hours on a trail between 50 -100km in lenght.
We start the course with basic instructions and 3-4 dogs the first days. We teach you each step before you do it by yourself ! Like: harnessing and mush your team, learning to build fires, cook for you and the dogs, build your night camp, find water, navigate and much more...
If you take this course seriously there is nowhere else in the world you can learn as much of mushing and taking care of yourself and your team in sub-arctic conditions in such short period of time. Protecting yourself against the cold is also an important skill we want to teach you.
Normally it is between -5°C and -25°C, but it can also be under -40°C
